Anyone knows that the MAJORITY of comments for WordPress posts are just spam garbage. Usually they have outbound links to other shady parts of the internet. This will help the bad guys with SEO by having your site link to them.
A lot of the hacking attempts and malware complications are done by submitting comments with code for the database to save and then execute later.
Additionally your community should be talking with you directly… not your website. Social Media and email marketing campaigns are a much better focus than monitoring your comments.
So with all that being said… Yes, you should disable any comment interactions with your WordPress.
